Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty named on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados, from Monica Braithwaite, a retired accounting and Ronald Fenty, a warehouse supervisor for a cloth factory. His mother, who came from Guyana are Afro-Guyanese, and his father was a descendant of Barbados and Ireland. Daughter eldest of three siblings, he has two younger brothers of the same two parents, and Rajad Rorrey Fenty. [He also has a half sister and half brother of the father, each born to different mothers before Rihanna's father married his mother. He grew up listening to reggae music types, and began singing around age seven years.

His childhood was strongly influenced by his addiction to cocaine, alcohol, and marijuana, and the divorce of his parents' marriage ended when he was 14 years old, although he remains a part of his life.
