Perry joined his parents' church service and singing in church from age nine to seventeen years. He grew up listening to gospel music, are not allowed to listen to what she calls "worldly music ", and attended Christian schools and camps. As a child, Perry learned to dance at a community center in Santa Barbara and taught by experienced dancers starting from swing dances, Lindy Hop, and Jitterbug.
